Domestic Abuse – Struggling to Cope

Over these long weeks of “lockdown” parents have struggled.

They have been inside with their partners and children for hours on end.

The normal things like work, sport or socialising disappeared.

We know this has led to higher numbers of reported incidents of Domestic Abuse and violence.

Nationally calls to support services have gone up between 25% and 58%

Calls to the NSPCC  helpline from young people worried about their safety, and the safety of a parent have gone up by around 32%.

It is really important that we continue to watch and listen, if you “See Something – Say Something”

If parents and carers cannot access support this can in extreme cases have a potentially dangerous impact on a child or young person.

Some parents will even resort to causing the child to have an illness or claim they have one. Just to get services involved.

As professionals and parents we need to stay alert.

The families we work with and those that live close by may need our help and support.
