Cultural Competence and Anti-Racist Practice Training

Why is the BHSCP providing this course?

Attending this training  will enhance your knowledge, skills and practice around working in a more culturally competent way and with humility, when working with Black and global majority children and families and where there may be safeguarding concerns. This training will assist you in looking through a intersectional lens at the different forms of oppression, discrimination and racism that children and families may experience. As multi-agency partners this training will enable you to consider risk and the safeguarding of children from diverse backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities and religions that may be different from your own.

Learning Outcomes – attendees will gain knowledge in the following areas:

  • The needs of Black, mixed heritage, Asian and global majority children and families
  • Culture and ethnicity
  • Look at stereotypes,
  • Gain insight into what Microaggressions are
  • Looking at language and how it is used in our work, recordings and assessments
  • Adultification
  • Beliefs and Bias’s
  • Intersectionality
  • Cultural competence and Cultural Humility

To book a place on our Safeguarding Training or for support or enquiries,  please email BHSCP@brighton-hove.gov.uk

Training is free for Children’s Services staff, school staff, foster carers, community/voluntary sector groups, BHCC contracted organisations in Children’s Services, statutory health organisations, police and probation and all early years (including private early years) who are working in Brighton & Hove. For private organisations and those working outside the city the cost is £120.
