Safeguarding Adolescents

Why is the BHSCP providing this course?

This training focuses on the particular issues around working with vulnerable adolescents and their families and what support and intervention can be offered. It will consider local service provision, including the Adolescent Service and how agencies can work together to safeguard young people in Brighton & Hove. The course will cover aspects of adolescent brain development and specific vulnerabilities in children that may make them particularly vulnerable to exploitation, for example, the impact of childhood trauma and neurodiversity. The course provides information on exploitation, including CSE, criminal exploitation, County Lines and other forms of contextual harm. Examples of practice are included with the young person’s voice and experience and multi-agency roles in safeguarding.

Target Audience:

People who work predominantly with children, young people and their families, parents or carers, and who could potentially contribute to assessment, interventions and/ or reviewing safeguarding needs for adolescents where there are contextual safeguarding concerns.

Learning outcomes:

During this session you will:

  • Consider local issues relating to adolescent safety and contextual harm;
  • Understand adolescent brain development, childhood trauma and the impact on behaviour;
