Supporting LGBT+ Children & Young People

Why is the BHSCP providing this course?

This session will also allow participants to discuss and reflect on how safeguarding issues relate specifically to LGBT+ children and young people – such as, increased risk of suicide, self-harm, exploitation, missing education etc.

Supporting LGBT+ Children & Young People
We will explore some of the issues and challenges experienced by children and young people who are LGBT+ or exploring their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.  Together we will examine how these issues may impact their lives and wellbeing.

Target Audience:

Members of staff, who work predominantly with children, young people and their families, parents or carers, and who could potentially contribute to the assessment, intervention and reviewing the safeguarding needs for a child or young person, where there are safeguarding concerns, and or potential risks.

Learning Outcomes:

  • A better understanding of the experiences of LGBT+ people.
  • More confidence in supporting, and being an ally to, LGBT+ people
  • Knowledge about creating more inclusive environments for LGBT+ people
